PTP Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What was the original vision and how has it changed?
A. Youth leadership and business support was the original vision. This has not changed. As we begin our independence we are also broadening our base to include all ages at varying degrees of involvement. We have found that everyone from the elementary school level to parents and grandparents have a place and want to participate.
Q. What is the number one environmental problem facing our earth today?
A. People are overwhelming the earth's ability to renew itself. When we take one minute off our shower time, we save 3 gallons of water per person. When 100,000 people take that one minute off, thats 300,000 gallons saved per day!
Paying attention to the length of our showers is one example of how we can all make a difference in our everyday lives. As the movement of Protect the Planet gains momentum, we are helping to create a social awareness of how our actions affect the Earth on which we depend for our survival.
Q. How did the partnerships with businesses come about?
A. We believed it was important to have the business community as our financial partners rather than depending on the government or foundation grants. When business people can make good things happen and have the company save money and be recognized for their efforts in the community, they're excited to help.
Q. How is PTP organized?
A. Our structure looks like a hub and spoke system, with schools as hubs and spokes rediating out to other schools, organizations, and businesses. Students are welcome to invite us to their classes to make presentations and begin their own PTP club or commitee, or check out the Earth Protection Agent Program.
